On February 26, 2012, Treyvon Martin (an unarmed African-American high school student) made the fatal mistake of taking a short cut through the neighborhood of George Zimmerman. Zimmerman shot and killed him. In July 2013, Zimmerman was acquitted of second-degree murder. This controversial case has made headlines for years.
