Val breaks it down in to its elemental parts and tries to re-assemble this into something easier to understand what it is, how to rate the Form Level, and how to use it. When you are looking at positive and negative influences in the handwriting, Form Level can help you integrate this appropriately. Come learn with us!

"The Chemicals Within - And How they Show Up In Our Handwriting"
On Saturday, October 19, 2019, we welcomed Edda Manley as she presented on "The Chemicals Within".
In a search for something I learned many decades ago, I came upon this fascinating information that left me, as the British expression goes, “Gobsmacked!”.
We’re all familiar with an adrenalin rush that one can experience through a sudden fright or shock, followed by the tremor that usually appears in handwriting thereafter when the adrenaline is cursing through our neurological system.
What I recently learned is that there are many other chemicals produced by our bodies, and they can have a profound effect on our personalities, which can then also be seen in our handwriting. I will discuss four such chemicals and their effects on us. Even more fascinating, this is something that Hippocrates knew and today we can prove with science.
Join me on October 19th to learn about this old/new information that amazed me after 30 years of studying handwriting analysis.

Ruth Holmes in her energetic and dynamic way, presented the "Doom Loop." The doom loop is an assessment tool to help determine potential behavior, something necessary in Human Resource work and Threat Assessment.
Based on the book The Doom Loop! by Charles Cranston Jett, Ruth uses this clever technique to help assess the levels of the "can's" and "can'ts" with the levels of frustration and yearning, over-extended and boredom, malcontent and dissatisfied, and the explosive misery and distress. With lots of visuals and handwriting samples, Ruth walks us through each type and demonstrates where we would find the indicators. |

"Doodles" with Val Weil on August 16th, 2018
On Thursday, August 16th, 2018, Valerie Weil presented "Doodles"
Mindless drawings, or doodles, can be extremely revealing. And, they actually have a purpose!
Just as in Handwriting Analysis, we apply the same principles to the size shapes, pressure, etc. Just as with Statement Analysis, the construct of the images created conveys what words cannot.
Come and see what is the new trend in corporate meetings, and what has been around since the beginning of sketching.
Val presents a visual program, full of graphological tidbits and interesting facts. You can even doodle through the session!

Body Language by Macjob on Jan 20, 2018
On Saturday, January 20th, 2018, we had an exceptionally interesting presentation about Body Language.
As graphologists, we are all aware of the saying: "Its Not What a Person Says, but How He Says It." The way in which a person writes is all posturing, motives, and both conscious and unconscious habits that reveal a lot about the writer. This is the written word...but what about the unwritten posturing, motives and both conscious and unconscious habits....That's the study of Body Language!
Oladipupo Macjob presented a wonderful exploration of the topic of human movement and its everyday relationship to what we have to say without words. He related this to how we look at a handwriting sample, and the need to remember that the human brain cannot absorb everything at first glance.
Since there is currently no injection, medication, immunization or vaccination against deception in life, your key respite is skills in Body language.

"Intuition" with Sandra Foote, November 16, 2017
On Thursday, November 16th, 2017, Sandra Foote, CGA, will present for us on the signs and interpretations for "Intuition." Sandra has been a handwriting specialist for over 25 years. Her focus is on personalities and how writers relate to each other. Intuition is also an interest to Sandra, and this interest inspired her to study the subject of intuition. This study combined with the study of handwriting is helpful in explaining the different types of intuition and how it is evident in each writer.
Intuitive thinking is one way of determining the handwriter's thought processes.
By definition, Intuition is the knowing or learning of something without conscious use of reasoning; an immediate understanding. This type of writer will have the innate ability to perceive or know things without consciously building reasons to come to that conclusion. It is not always a sign for high intelligence, rather it is a different way the writer perceives the world around himself.
There are several indicators in the handwriting; and, there are things in the handwriting that can modify our perception of these "intuition" traits.
Please join us for this wonderful presentation on November 16th, 2017 at 6PM Pacific (that's 7 PM Mountain, 8PM Central, and 9PM Eastern.)

The Legacy of Willy Schoenfeld Continues, By Susanne Shapiro, Oct 21, 2017
Willy Schoenfeld was an amazing graphologist. His death in Auschwitz was a real tragedy, and a loss to this field. He had hidden his research, his books and letters before he was made to leave Czechoslovakia. His friend knew where, and was asked to carry on his work after the war.
Willy was personally knew some of the other great graphologists, like Sonneman. His collection of letters contains correspondence from Pulver, Klages, Pophal and others that created theories and principles we that use today in handwriting analysis. Susanne inherited the collection from Willy’s friend. For years, she has been working to translate the fragile papers, research, letters and more from Czech and German to English. She shared with us some more of this collection today. Part 1 of the presentation was in January of this year. This one continues the works and life of Willy. Most of the papers are in German. If you are fluent, and would like to help with this project, Please contact Susanne! She would love to hear from you. Email [email protected] for her contact info. |
Marcel Elfers: "Statement Analysis of George Zimmerman Case" September 21, 2017
On February 26, 2012, Treyvon Martin (an African American high school student) made the fatal mistake of taking a short cut through the neighborhood of George Zimmerman. Zimmerman shot and killed him. In July 2013, Zimmerman was acquitted of second-degree murder. This controversial case has made headlines for years.
Marcel Elfers will demonstrate, with the handwriting and linguistics used in the Zimmerman police report, how Statement Analysis works. Marcel has a fantastic way of explaining this process. |

Lower Case "i" with Linda Larson, July 15, 2017
Please join us on Saturday, July 15, at 11:00 AM Pacific (that's 12 PM Mountain, 1 PM Central, and 2 PM Eastern) as we welcome from Linda Larson and her discussion on how we view the lower case letter "i" for a better understanding of our writer.
There's volumes written about the capital and Personal Pronoun I, but the lower case letter also carries great significance when viewed with the rest of the writing. Come, explore this concept with us for a better understanding of the personality revealed in the script. Linda brings several excellent samples in illustration of the lower case i in action. Linda will also be presenting at the AHAF Conference in October of this year! |
The Zones, Mapping Out Your Life with Valerie Weil, June 15, 2017
Most graphologists only look at the Upper Zone, Lower, Zone and Middle Zone. But there is so much more in the topography of the writing: Longitude and Latitude, Rivers, Plains, Hooded Structures, and more. Taking a look at how the natural, and sometimes unnatural, peaks and valleys come together to tell your personal story. And its all there, if you can read the maps!
Join us for this rather interesting on taking it back to basics with Zones, and pumping it up to something rather revealing! |
Health Factors as seen in the handwriting with Sandra Foote, May 18, 2017
As graphologists, there are many things we can see about the health of our writers. The sore feet, the aching back, the sore stomach, the headache are just some of the things we can see.
But ethics require us to reveal what the handwriting says and respect the boundaries. Every good graphologist knows what those boundaries are, and should be able to relate only some of their findings to the client. Its in knowing the difference that counts. Come and see where these indicators are hidden in the script! Learn where to find the indicators, what you can say about them, and when they may be important to the client! |
"What to Say Instead" By Linda Larson April 22, 2017
One of the most challenging things we (as graphologists) have to learn is what to say, when, how, and to whom.
As graphologists, we must always remember that behind each individual handwriting sample is a real, live Person. Our word choices can make a very big impact on their psyche. Come explore with us the dos and don'ts and the whys; and, how to make better, softer, and more useful word choices when we report on any handwriting, verbally or written! |

February 18, 2017: Linda Green on "Visual, Audio, Kinetic, as seen in the Handwriting"
Linda Green, CG presented on different styles of thinking/learning and how they display in our handwriting.
Based on How to Analyze Handwriting by Hal Falcon, Ph.D. (1964), the title of the talk will be "Are you Eye-minded, Ear-minded or Action-minded?" In other words are you a visual, auditory or a kinesthetic (VAK) type?
We talked about the characteristics of these three types and how we can identify them in handwriting. Knowing how to spot these types might apply to vocational guidance or personnel selection. This can be a fun icebreaker and interesting topic of discussion at a party or when doing quickie analyses. Make sure you have unlined paper and a pen handy! Test your own writing!

September 15, 2016: "Great Report Writing for all Graphologists" by Valerie Weil
The AHAF Online Chapter group welcomes one of our own for our September meeting. Valerie Weil, will be presenting on "Great Report Writing for all Graphologists."
Its true that most graphology schools never covered the proper way to create a report. Yet, AHAF Certification has certain requirements, including report writing, that are necessary to pass. These requirements are not just for the exam students, but should fill the need of professionalism and standards for all Graphologists. Val says "I know when I took the exam, I had trouble with concepts asked in the reports, like coping skills, drives and motivations: how to find them, what to say about them, and understanding why these were important to the report. I found out, and put all of this, and more, into this wonderful presentation!" Val will walk you through all the necessary steps as outlined by the AHAF Certification requirements, help you cover all the basics for each type of report, offer some wonderful tips, how-to's, and even some sage advice. Join us! |

January 16, 2016 Edda Manley presents Handwriting in Comics and Cartoons
Edda provided a truly wonderful presentation about finding "handwriting" in the comics and cartoons of the day. Topic issues and timely reminders of generations of tongue-in-cheek or down-right satire were captured in the "Funny Pages" of newpapers, magazines and periodicals. Edda saved them all! What a brilliant and fun way to review the lighter side of how people perceive handwriting and handwriting analysis! This presentation came with three handouts!

Statement Analysis, by Mark McClish, November 19, 2015
Please join us for this exciting chapter meeting on "Statement Analysis" by the author and creator, Mark McClish on Thursday, November 19th, 2015 at 6:00 PM Pacific / 9:00 PM Eastern.
Mark has worked with the Secret Service, and the US Marshall's. In 1993 he was promoted to Instructor/Inspector for the US Marshall's Training Academy. His specialty was teaching interviewing techniques. Having studied deceptive statements and conducted research on deceit, Mark developed the now copyrighted system of "Statement Analysis" used by many researchers and police departments around the globe. He is the author of the books I Know You Are Lying and Don't Be Deceived. He also developed the Statement Analyzer which is software that will analyze a statement for deception. Using Linguistics (key words and phrases), and Storytelling Formula's (the ratio of beginning, middle and end), handwriting analysis, and the "huh" factor, Mark has developed a system of spotting a liar with 91% average for accuracy. The average Lie-Detection is only 54% accurate. (*Pamela Meyers, "Liespotting.") Please join us as we welcome Mark for this very interesting presentation on Statement Analysis! Don't forget, this is "live", Thursday, November 19, at 6PM Pacific / 9 PM Eastern! Video copies of this presentation will only be made available to AHAF Online Chapter members. If you are not already on the email list, just let Val know you want to be included ([email protected]) See you there! |
"Research" By Dr. Jane Yank, October 17, 2015
We all know that handwriting demonstrates personality, intellect, energy, and even health. Prove it! Site your evidence.
For years, graphology has been called a pseudoscience because there is not enough empirical evidence to substantiate what we know to be accurate.
Everyone in the graphology communities should know of the research efforts that are being conducted to validate graphology. And, we should all be willing to assist in that research. Its been a long while since regular research has been conducted or its empirical findings published.
But research is not as exciting, and therefore doesn't get enough attention. Help change that, join us. Come and find out what is going on with research today, how to conduct quality research, and see what opportunities we have for you to participate.
Dr. Jane Yank, our AHAF Research Chair, will guide us through what is good research, how to conduct it, and what to do with it to get support and assistance along the way.

"Quickie Analysis" by Linda Larson September 18, 2015
Whether you are analyzing handwriting at high school graduation parties, executive events, data processing conferences or somebody says "Here's my handwriting, what does it tell you?", you probably want to say something. Whether you are a person who does not think handwriting should be used at casual events, or you enjoy such interactions, you need some tools when put in this situation.
If you want to have a better idea about how to approach quickie analyses, and get to the heart of a writing, and what pitfalls to avoid, what you need for a reasonable sample of writing, and when to "just say no", you will be glad to attend Thursday evening's AHAF Online Chapter meeting. Between knowing where to begin with a writing, and what the technical limitations are, (such as how many writings can reasonably be done in an hour), Linda can fill you in on what you need to know.
Linda will review some of the tactful ways of of conducting the "quickie" analysis by describing what is needed, what is to be avoided, and what can make this first experience into graphology meaningful for someone.

Relationship Dynamics by Marcel Elfers August 20, 2015
Everyone of us has a number of relationships. You were once a child. You had parents, perhaps siblings, and cousins and friends. You learned, shared secrets, and explored the world around you. You went to school, so you had teachers and classmates. You may or may not have had your first kiss. You selected a course of life that may have created new alliances (college, military, professional, etc.)
The sum of our experiences, how we absorb that information and use it to keep us going, lays the blueprints for the relationships we develop as an adult.
Master behavior profiler, Marcel Elfers, will demonstrate just how we understand relationships work with ourselves and others. "Behavior is a repetitive response to our internal dialogue. What we feel and think determines what we do. When you understand the core perspective of someone, you can influence them with integrity."
Marcel Elfers website http://tremendalist.weebly.com/ offers access to his book and information about his 6-week course in understanding personalities, motivations, style of thinking, and more!

"Journal Writing" by Dr. Donna Whipple July 18, 2015
Journal writing can be an easy way for self reminders, or a diary of things accomplished today. We can shout out on paper what we could not shout out aloud. Journaling allows us to write out our feelings, our frustrations, as well as set goals and expectations, and even some reminders for things we need to improve upon. When you see your record of daily journal entries, it can be a catalyst to obtaining a new understanding of the self, the whole person that created the writing.
Come and explore a bit of the mind behind the handwriting as we learn more about Journal Writing from psychologist, Dr. Donna Whipple. Join us on Saturday, July 18, 2015 as we welcome Donna, presenting “Journal Writing, an Exploration of Self.”

June 18th, 2015 6PM Pacific: Linda Larson on "Space, the First Frontier"
Linda Larson filled in for another speaker on short notice, but made a big impact on all of us!
Her topic was "Space, the First Frontier." The first impression we notice with handwriting is the use of space; or how much of it we fill with ink and how much of it we leave open. With some wonderful samples to illustrate her points, Linda was able to help navigate us through the various types of "space" for all handwriting analysts to examine. It was indeed a great Space Exploration for all of us, novice or professional! If you want to see the video of this excellent presentation, please email Val at [email protected] |
May 21st, 2015 6 PM Pacific: Annette Poizner on "Projective Storytelling"
The presentation was an amazing demonstration on "Projective Storytelling." Annette convincingly showed us that the addition of creative storytelling can tell us more about the individual, for a more rounded assessment of character and development. And it also provides us with an excellent handwriting sample.
The demonstration provided the instructions the individuals were given about creating a story. And, then, Annette shared samples and discussions about the writings. We reviewed the handwriting, as well as symbolism, linguistics, and meanings in the script. If you want to view the video of this truly wonderful presentation, please email our chapter secretary at [email protected] |
April 16, 2015 6PM Pacific: Linda Green on the AHAF Library, HARL, and more!
Linda Green, is the Librarian for the AHAF Library. Well, that's one of her many hats. Over the course of the past few years in that position, Linda was put in charge of the daunting task of physically "moving" the AHAF library.
As a result, all items in the vast AHAF Library are in the process of being categorized, labeled, and made available online in a number of ways: some are formatted for immediate download in email, others are for loan by mail through a lending library; and some (for which we have extra copies) are available for sale and shipped as ordered. In addition to a large collection of hardbound and paperback books, many little known monographs and limited publications are, for the first time, becoming accessible though the brand new online access to our new Library. There's so much in the library regarding research, methods, and viewpoints, and even a few hidden treasures. Linda noted that Bob Beckman's vast library, the HARL (Handwriting Analysis Research Library) is amazing, but work needs to be done to save it. It has been idle for a decade and the work Bob had done was incredible in collecting all these materials, articles, notes, publications, monographs, and books. Anthony Brochetelli is helping with scanning some of the papers. Linda will be visiting the Library in Massachusetts again next month to continue work on just recording the catalogs. More to come! In demonstration of some of the amazing works available in our AHAF Library, member Mathew Thomas provided us with a book report. Linda provided us with the access information for the library: (log in at www.ahafhandwriting.org, select Education and Research, select Research Library. There you will find all sorts of information about the library. Then, click on the URL link to the AHAF Library online Catalog for all published books that have and ISBN number. There are more older books that cannot be circulated, and there are plenty of monographs that area also available. As the Monographs do not have ISBN numbers, the titles/content/author information is available in a spreadsheet. Simply click on the Searchable Spreadsheet for Monographs" to see what you can order! This is all at your fingertips, and most for little to no cost to you! How cool is that! If you want the video of this presentation and a copy of the handouts, please email secretary [email protected] |
2015 March 19, 2015: Val Weil on "Draw Me a Tree"
Filling in for Linda Larson for this March presentation, Val Weil talked about how sketch drawings apply the same interpretive techniques used in handwriting analysis with regards to placement on the page, depth of pressure and where pressure changes, Zones, Slants, connectivity, overstepping boundaries, etc. Val also provided resources for additional readying into this really interesting topic.
Not being able to chew bubblegum and walk at the same time, Val forgot to hit "record" for her own presentation. So there is no video of this meeting. Instead, she has made her PowerPoint of this presentation available to all who ask for it. Email Val at [email protected] |
2015 February 19: Roger Rubin on "Persona in the Handwriting"
Thursday, February 19th, 2015, at 6PM Pacific (9PM Eastern)
Roger Rubin was our guest speaker for our February meeting. Roger brings insightful dynamics to connecting handwriting analysis and key personality issues. Using samples for demonstration, Roger explains how to connect the dots provided by the clues in the writing for a fuller and richer understanding of the person who wrote it. Roger concentrated this presentation to "Persona" in the handwriting.

2015, January 17th: Edda Manley on the "State of Handwriting Today."
Handwriting expert, Edda Manley, provided insight into the issues facing the use and future use of cursive handwriting today. The lack of penmanship education in schools today is only a portion of the problem, and the lack of required usage (practice) has decreased the importance of writing. Children are not learning to hold their pencils, how to make their letter formations or how to use appropriate margins and spacing. Most students will print, only because it is more familiar to them since writing is not a requirement. Graphic maturity is at an all time low.
We can make a difference! We can bring awareness to the use of cursive writing, offer coaching, offer courses at local colleges and libraries...and bring awareness to the issues. Email [email protected] for the video. |
2014, December 18th: Gayna Scott presents Campaign for Cursive
Chair of the Campaign for Cursive movement, Gayna Scott, came to present some of the great activities the group is doing to promote handwriting and to share some wonderful progress that the Campaign for Cursive has made in recent months. Just in time to prepare for our own National Handwriting Day events, Gayna offered ideas and suggestions that we can do. The group has a brand new website, an awesome new logo, a lot of new and national support and the momentum is growing. In May, Gayna and Sheila Lowe will present at the Conference for WIMA (creator of "National Handwriting Day").

July 19, 2014 Val Weil on "Spree and Serial Killers: At the Hands of Evil"
There are no set list of indicators that can tell you who is a serial killer by their writing. However, handwriting is a behavior. Each and every person expresses themselves differently, and these differences reflect the writer's attitude, behavior and personality.
Come, join us July 19th at 11AM PDT for an adventure on the dark side where we will be learning about bad behavior and how it is often expressed in handwriting.
Graphologists learn patterns, and they learn a lot about a person's behavior. As with most patterns of behavior, you can tell so many things about the person by their handwriting. Unlike verbal and body language which are conscious acts, many details in behavior are unconsciously expressed. A trained graphologist can reveal more details of personality and behavior from the person's handwriting.
Explore the Red Flags in handwriting, and what behaviors they represent. Look for combinations of red flags and understand what they mean to the writer, and to the graphologist. Val's presentation has many samples to illustrate the patterns and red flags. Join us!

April 19, 2014 Sheila Lowe and Linda Larson on "TED Talk Stories and Samples"
For a whole week, March 17-21, four of our AHAF members braved rigorous 12-hour days providing enlightenment, entertainment, and promotion of Handwriting Analysis at the TED Talks Conference.
TED stands for Technology, Education, and Design. Their Talks are vignettes of 20 minutes or less on the subjects that are changing our world. Some of the greatest innovators of our time are either presenting or attending these conferences. (https://www.ted.com)
Sheila Lowe and Linda Larson provided services to the staff and attendees of the TED Talks Conference in Vancouver, B.C. The Simulcast was held at the Mall of America, Minneapolis, MN USA where Susette Cline and Theresa Ortega were providing the same type of services (although under very different circumstances.)
We are very pleased to have Sheila and Linda present the April 19th meeting about their experiences, war-stories, and share handwriting samples of the movers and shakers that were present for the TED Talks.

January 23rd, 2014 National Handwriting Day launches the AHAF Online Chapter group
The AHAF online chapter first began on January 23rd (National Handwriting Day). We organized by inviting members of AHAF, as well as members of the online list communications groups for Vanguard, Writefully, and DBTL to videoconference with us. Participants suggested officers, and these were voted on by Email. For the program, Valerie Weil had created a Powerpoint presentation on National Handwriting Day. I am sorry, but we did not record this very first meeting. However, if you want the presentation on National Handwriting Day, just email Val at [email protected]
